OBUASI based club Ashanti Gold, has ended their trophy drought for 19 years, after winning the 2015/2016 First Capital Plus Premier league title.
The miners, who needed just a win to fend off second placed side Aduana stars, beat WAFA by a goal to zero thanks to a beautifully converted penalty, by Emmanuel Osei to hand them their fourth Ghana premier league title in
The game which was a must win for Ashanti Gold was witnessed by a host of dignitaries and old players like Princeton Owusu Ansah, Joe Hendricks and among others.
with just a game at hand the miners lead the Ghana league with 52 points 6 points ahead of Adana stars who has 46 points respectively.
Ashanti Gold last won the title in the 1993/94 season and dominated for two seasons winning the 1995 and 1996 seasons and since then has gone on a trophy drought with the closest they have come to winning came in 2010 but were beaten to it by Aduana Stars.
The trophy will be presented to them away from home when the play Olympics in their last game.
