Ghanaian young boxer Isaac Dogboe aims for a new record

WBO Africa featherweight champion, Isaac Dogboe has indicated his readiness to wrestle the WBC Youth world featherweight title when he comes up against Neil John Tabanao from the Philippines on Friday, August 26.

Three titles would be at stake when the two combatants mount the ring and Dogboe has stated that he is in no mood to let that opportunity slip through his fingers, knowing how close a win will edge him closer to a world title shot.

In addition to Dogboe’s WBO Africa version of the featherweight title, Tabanao will also have his Asia and Australia (Oriental) version plus the vacant WBC Youth title at stake.

Tabanao, 22, is considered a knockout specialist from a country that has produced a number of crack boxers in the lighter weights with Manny Pacquiao being the most recent champion from the region.

His record of 13 wins with just a single loss clearly speaks of his ability in the ring having ended the dreams of many boxers via the short route but that means nothing to Dogboe.

According to him, he is ever ready for any boxer in his weight category irrespective of where he comes from and is ready to combat any challenge posed by Tabanao.

“This is one of the biggest fights in my career. I don’t think it’s so special because I have fought equally difficult opponents like him and I came out victorious. This might be coming closer to a chance for the world title proper so I understand the concerns among Ghanaians.”

The Ghanaian has a fight more than the Philippino and without a blemish and was hopeful his enviable record would be intact as he aims to set a new record of being the first to fight for the WBC World Youth title in Africa.

The fight would be staged at the Police Officers Social and Fitness Centre (POSFC) behind the Police Headquarters in Accra with support from Ganiva, dealers in Calcium MF Battery, Widi-locks Modern Technology Locks Limited and Aborigines Beach Resort.
