Yacouba Songne inspired Kotoko to a 3-0 victory against Berekum Chelsea at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Yocouba scored twice whiles Kwame Boahene scored one to help the Porcupines to a resounding victory over the Berekum based side.
Kwame Boahene opened the scoring in the 15th minute after connecting with Jordan Opoku’s corner kick ending the first half with 1-0 in Kotoko’s favor.
Yacouba Songne extended the lead in the 63rd minute by capitalizing on a loose marking to latch into Prince Acquah’s through pass to place the ball over the onrushing Emmanuel Asamoah into the bottom corner of the right post.
Yacouba completed the rout in the 75th minute with a simple tap-in from inside the six-yard-box when Zakaria Fuseini put the ball into his path in haste to clear his lines after Jordan Opoku’s corner kick.
The visitors had the opportunity to pull one back in the 90th minute when referee Charles Bulu awarded a penalty two minutes into injury time after Augustine Sefah’s foul on Augustine Henneh inside the box, but Felix Annan showed why he is the best goalkeeper on the local scene currently when he dived to save Henneh’s kick from heading into the bottom corner of the right post.
The win is Akakpo Patron’s first win since taking charge of the Porcupines as head coach after the exit of Paa Kwesi Fabin following a 2-3 defeat in Obuasi last weekend.
