Ghana’s only representatives in the 2018/19 CAF Confederations Cup, Kotoko, have advanced to the one-sixteenth stage of the competition without kicking a ball.
This follows a decision by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to cancel the first round match involving Kotoko after the Cameroun Football Federation (FECAFOOT) failed to submit its representative before the deadline.
Caf confirmed this in a tweet In a tweet on Saturday that “Matches #37&38 are canceled because the deadline for FECAFOOT Office [Cameroun Football Federation] to confirm the engagement of second rep. For Total CAF Confederation Cup has elapsed. Asante Kotoko is therefore qualified to the 1/16th round.”
Kotoko were scheduled to meet an opponent from Cameroon in a first round first leg at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi on Wednesday, November 28.
The Porcupine Warriors will wait for the winner between Kenya’s Kariobangi Sharks and ARTA Solar of Djibouti to know their next opponent.
The first leg of their next caf confederations cup is slated between December 14 and 16.
