The Minister of Youth and Sports, Isaac Asiamah, through the Sports Ministry has congratulated Asante Kotoko for their qualification into the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup.
Charles Kwablan Akonnor’s Porcupine Warriors put up a vintage performance to beat Coton Sport 2-1 at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.
The win over Coton Sport brings the team back into the group stage of the competition after 13 years with a 5-3 aggregate win, having won the reverse 3-2 in Cameroon last week.
The Minister charged Asante Kotoko to bring back the country’s lost glory in football.
“The Minister of Youth and Sports Isaac Asiamah, on behalf of the government and the people of Ghana to congratulate Kumasi Asante Kotoko for progressing to the group stage of CAF Confederation Cup competition with a massive aggregate victory,” A statement from the Sports Ministry signed on behalf of the minister by the Public Relations Officer, Gifty Hagan.
“The Minister further expresses gratitude to all the fans who filled the Baba Yara Sports to rafters in support of the Porcupine Warriors for this important win.”
“Having progressed further to the group stage, the minister urged the club to do well and reignite Ghana’s successes in continental football,” the statement said.
