The Ministry of Youth and Sports (MOYS) on Tuesday, presented a brand new Toyota Corolla car, to the newly crowned International Boxing Federation (IBF), Lightweight champion, Richard Commey.
Mr. Curtis Perry Okudjeto, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports said, the gesture was in fulfilment of a promised made by Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo, president of the Republic of Ghana, to the boxer, two weeks ago.
According to the Deputy Minister, government recognises the role boxing plays in the development of the country, hence the decision to support the champion.
He said boxing, which was one of the most foremost disciplines in the country, that produces s champions on regular basis was not forgotten.
“This is to urge other young boxers and other sports men and women to work hard to win laurels for Ghana, as their efforts would not go without recognition,” he added.
Mr. Peter Zweenes, President of Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), expressed appreciation to the President, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the National Sports Authority for ensuring the realization of the promised made to the boxer.
He said “when those who achieve laurels for the nation are honoured, it encourages others to work hard”.
