Mayweather’s dad Predicts son’s rematch with Pacquiao

FLOYD Mayweather will return to boxing against Manny Pacquiao or when “the right man gets in his face,” his father and namesake has claimed.

Mayweather, now 42, supposedly hung up his gloves for good after victory over Conor McGregor in August 2017.

But he returned to the ring in December for an exhibition fight against Japanese kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa and has since been teasing a possible rematch with Pacquiao.

Mayweather, who has been spending time in Dubai, outpointed his rival in the richest fight in boxing history back in 2015 and Floyd Snr believes his son will lace up the gloves again soon.

“Right now, I have to say myself that Floyd’s still got the fire in him. I’m not just saying it because it’s the way it is,” he told the Las Vegas Sports Network.

“When a person says he’s retired, he’s retired. But it seems right now to me that he’s doing that (supposed to be fighting) pretty much every month.

“I don’t know whether he (is training) sometimes. I know one thing, he’s going to get back in the gym and terrorise some things… I’m saying that because it’s going to happen, for real.”

Pacquiao, who beat Adrien Broner in his last outing in January, has been chasing the rematch for years.

The Filipino sensation, a veteran of 70 professional fights, complained of injury in the wake of the first fight. But Mayweather Snr insists his son will return, whether Pacquiao is in the opposite corner or not.

“I think he’s going to return when the right man gets in his face. Pacquiao was mouthing off so he can get it again too. I heard they were speaking about fighting again, but I don’t know what the talks at the fights were (really) about.

“But it doesn’t make any difference if the fight with Pacquiao is on or not. I think there’s some kind of return for Floyd. I don’t know exactly who.”
