Liverpool through to Champions League group stage

International News
Liverpool produced a stunning attacking display against play-off opponents Hoffenheim to ensure five English sides will compete in the Champions League group stage for the first time. Leading 2-1 from the first leg, the Reds virtually wrapped up the tie with three goals in the opening 20 minutes. Emre Can's deflected shot put them ahead before Mohamed Salah reacted quickest to slot in a rebound off the post. Can stroked in Roberto Firmino's cross at the back post just 143 seconds later before Hoffenheim substitute Mark Uth, introduced after 24 minutes in a tactical reshuffle, pulled one back. Former Hoffenheim forward Firmino put the tie beyond doubt after the break, sliding the ball into the bottom corner after Jordan Henderson dispossessed opposing captain Kevin Vogt before u...

Kenny Dalglish: Liverpool to rename Anfield’s Centenary Stand after club legend

International News
Liverpool are to rename Anfield's Centenary Stand in honour of club legend Kenny Dalglish. Dalglish, 66, scored 172 goals in 515 appearances after joining the club in 1977, becoming player-manager in 1985. The Scot won a total of eight league titles, three European Cups, two FA Cups and five League Cups in his first spell at the club, which ended in 1991. He returned as manager in 2011, winning the 2012 League Cup, and is currently a non-executive director. "His name is synonymous with our club, with our home and the city of Liverpool," said owner John W Henry. "Now it will be as visible as it is palpable." Anfield's Centenary Stand (far side here) was known as the Kemlyn Road stand until 1992 Dalglish was manager at the time of the Hillsborough disaster in 1989,...

Sadio Mane to arrive in time for Reds, Chelsea clash

International News
Liverpool's Senegalese forward Sadio Mane is set to return from Africa in time for the Chelsea clash on Tuesday night. The Premier League leaders will visit Anfield in a crunch game for Jurgen Klopp’s faltering side and Mane’s presence could prove the lift needed to get the season on track. Mane missed a penalty in a shootout against Cameroon in the AFCON quarter finals on Saturday night following a 0-0 draw and that has ended Senegal’s participation in the competition. Liverpool have looked a very different side without the former Southampton man since he departed for Africa earlier this month and the return of his pace and directness will be a welcome one for the club. It is expected that he will only be able to make the substitute bench for the game after arriving back o

Liverpool’s Sakho on his way out after manager’s revelations

International News
X Mamadou Sakho's career at Liverpoo appears to be over after manager Jurgen Klopp confirmed the defender is not part of his first team plans. France international Sakho has not played for Liverpool this season despite returning to fitness in September. UEFA announced Sakho had failed a drugs test back in April, but the charges against him were dropped in July after he served a provisional ban, missing Liverpool's Europa League final defeat and Euro 2016. The former Paris Saint-Germain centre-back was then sent home from a pre-season tour of the United States, with Klopp revealing Sakho had nearly missed their flight to San Francisco, missed a training session and was late for a team meal. Sakho accused Liverpool of using his fitness as an excuse for his exile from the first

Jurgen Klopp will drop any Liverpool player showing signs of complacency

International News
Jurgen Klopp says he will drop any Liverpool player showing signs of complacency but is confident it is not an issue in his squad. The Anfield side are well placed to challenge for the Premier League title after a positive start to the season and sit just a point behind leaders Chelsea after 12 matches. Liverpool, who are looking for their league title since 1990, were top until their 0 - 0 draw with Southampton at the weekend, but Klopp says he would not stand for any celebrating at this stage of the season. "If somebody is a character and wants to celebrate position one in November then he will not play in December anymore because I see it pretty quickly," he said. "But these things usually don't happen. The players are here in this situation because their character is re
