Arsenal have rejected a £50m bid from Premier League rivals Manchester City for forward Alexis Sanchez. Alexis Sanchez who scored 24 Premier League goals last season, is out of contract next summer and wants to play for City manager Pep Guardiola. Arsenal have rebuffed all approaches for Sanchez, and would like City's Raheem Sterling as part of any deal before Thursday's transfer deadline. But Guardiola is understood to want the Chilean as a straight purchase. England forward Sterling, 22, has featured in all three of City's games so far this season. However he is not guaranteed a starting role at Etihad Stadium following the summer arrival of Bernardo Silva from Monaco. BBC Sport understands Sterling would be interested in moving back to London should he become part of t
Sudanese giants, Al Hilal’s defender Soualio Dabila Ouattara has arrived in Spain for a tryout with FC Barcelona. Ouattara, 21, is an Ivorian center-back who only joined Hilal from Africa Sports in November last year. According to a statement by Al Hilal Club’s Secretary General, Emad Al Tayeb, the Sudanese club has been officially communicating with the management of Barcelona who requested the addition of Ouattara to their ranks over the past few weeks. “Barcelona has already sent a visa and a first class ticket onboard Turkish Airlines to conduct tests,” Al Tayeb said on the club’s official webpage on Sunday. Dabila Ouattara arrived in Spain on Monday following Hilal’s acceptance of the request by the Catalan giants. He will undergo observation at the Barca ‘B’ side
Neymar scored twice on his home debut as PSG netted four of their six goals with only 10 men to thrash Toulouse and go top of Ligue 1. Max Gradel volleyed home before £200m world record signing Neymar equalized. Adrien Rabiot fired in and Edinson Cavani made it 3-1 from the spot moments after Marco Verratti saw red. Christopher Jullien's header made it 3-2, but stunning strikes from Javier Pastore and Layvin Kurzawa settled matters before Neymar's late effort. The result moved PSG to the top of the table on goal difference, with Monaco and Saint-Etienne also maintaining their 100% winning records this weekend. Barcelona made a winning start to their La Liga campaign by defeating Real Betis on an emotional night at the Nou Camp. The Spanish giants were playing for the first time since the terror attack in the city on Thursday and both teams paid their respects to the victims with a minute's silence before kick off. Barcelona took the lead in the game when Betis Alin Tosca deflected Gerard Deulofeu's cross into his own net. Sergi Roberto then swept in a second. It was a much-needed result for Barcelona after a difficult start to their season. Forward Neymar left the club to join Paris St-Germain in the summer before they were beaten 5-1 on aggregate by rivals Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup. Lionel Messi, the focal point of the Barcelona forward line in the absence of Neymar an...
Cristiano Ronaldo looked down from his private box, Gareth Bale watched from the bench, and on the pitch – showing no signs of missing either of them – Real Madrid destroyed a Barcelona side to win the Spanish Super Cup. Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele’s prices can be cranked up a little further after this because Barcelona’s board have no choice but to strengthen before the window shuts. Today they will present former Tottenham midfielder Paulinho, not quite the first post-Neymar signing their supporters had in mind. Real Madrid were without their two most expensive players as Ronaldo began a five-game ban for pushing a referee and Bale was dropped to the bench to make way for 21-year-old Marco Asensio. It was the youngster’s rocket shot from 35-yards out on four mi
Neymar scored on his Paris St-Germain debut following his world record £200m transfer from Barcelona. The Brazilian had a hand in all three goals as PSG beat Guingamp to maintain their 100% start to the season. Jordan Ikoko opened the scoring with an own goal moments after Neymar's pass to Edinson Cavani was cut out. Neymar then assisted Cavani with an excellent through ball, before the Uruguayan passed to his new team-mate late on to score from six yards out. The 25-year-old Brazil international, who played on the left side but got involved centrally too, had a bright debut with plenty of flicks and tricks - although most of his shots were blocked before his late strike.
Cristiano Ronaldo scored and was then sent off as Real Madrid beat Barcelona 3-1 in the Spanish Super Cup first leg. Gerard Pique slid Marcelo's cross into his own net before Lionel Messi levelled from a penalty. Ronaldo, who was a substitute, restored Real's lead when he ran from halfway before smashing an effort home. He was booked for taking off his shirt to celebrate and shown a second yellow shortly after for a dive - before Marco Asensio scored an excellent third. Ronaldo felt he should have had a penalty when he went down under pressure from Samuel Umtiti, and appeared to shove the referee in the back after he was shown the red card. Even for a player who has been so prominent in El Clasico contests, the 24 minutes Ronaldo spent on the pitch were unusually eventful. ...
Paris St-Germain have signed Brazil forward Neymar for a world record fee of 222m euros (£200m) from Barcelona. The deal for the 25-year-old smashes the previous record set when Paul Pogba returned to Manchester United from Juventus for £89m in August 2016. He will earn 45m euros (£40.7m) a year - 865,000 euros (£782,000) a week - before tax from the initial five-year deal, a total outlay of £400m. Neymar said he has joined "one of the most ambitious clubs in Europe". "Paris St-Germain's ambition attracted me to the club, along with the passion and the energy this brings," he added. "I feel ready to take the challenge. From today, I will do everything I can to help my new team-mates." The French side have arranged a news conference for 12:30 BST on Friday. Neymar will the
Senegal international winger Ismaila Sarr says he rejected a move to Spanish giants Barcelona to sign for French side Stade Rennes. The 19-year-old Teranga Lion has secured a four-year contract in a deal worth $20m (£15.2m) as he switched from rivals Metz. "I could have gone to Spain and join the great Barcelona, but leaving Metz to join them was too early," he said. "I saw Rennes as a club that will help me progress and reach great heights." With just six caps for his country, Sarr has already been compared to former Rennes winger Ousmane Dembele, who now plays for Borussia Dortmund. However the teenager is keen to create his own legacy. "I still have to progress defensively, offensively with more flair, and be more decisive in my approach towards goal," he added. "Wi
Juventus produced an exceptional defensive performance to reach the semi-finals of the Champions League after stopping Barcelona from scoring at the Nou Camp. Trailing 3-0 from the first leg, Barca peppered the Italian goal but failed to repeat their last-16 heroics when they overturned a first - leg 4-0 deficit to beat Paris St-Germain. Lionel Messi, who had earlier been denied by Gianluigi Buffon, fired wastefully over the bar while Luis Suarez and Neymar also spurned chances on a night Barca were restricted to one shot on target. Juve's Gonzalo Higuain fired tamely at Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Juan Cuadrado missed another chance but the final whistle was celebrated wildly by the champions of Italy.
