Cote d’Ivoire and Senegal crashed out of Wafu

Senegal and Cote d’Ivoire only have themselves to blame after crashing out of the 2017 WAFU Cup of Nations following their goalless draw in their final Group B game at Cape Coast Sports Stadium on Tuesday, September 19. Senegal came out the blocks firing and created the first chance on goal in the opening minute when Assane Mbodji met a cross from the right, showing good skill to bring it under control before shooting wide from 14-yards out. The action quickly switched to the other end of the field when Ivorian Babou Diarra saw his powerful long range free-kick brilliantly saved by the keeper in the fifth minute. The next opportunity in front of goal only came in the 25th minute when Daouda Dieme cut into the Cote d’Ivoire box from the left flank, beating two defenders before

A goal from Charbel Gomez handed Benin a shock 1-0 win over Cote d’Ivoire in a Group B, 2017 WAFU Cup of Nations match at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium on Friday, September 15. The first scoring opportunity came in the 15th minute when Ivorian Inza Diabate brilliantly controlled a cross from the right on his chest and volleyed goal wards, but the Benin keeper made a spectacular close range save to deny. Six minutes later Fulgenc Aka Essis met a cross from the right at the back post, but his eight-yard header was acrobatically stopped by the Benin keeper once again. Despite being on the back foot for the most part, Benin took the lead in the 40th minute, very much against the run of play, when a shot from Marcellin Koupo was saved into the path of Charbel Gomez who duly tapped

Ivory Coast will open their Group B campaign at the 2017 WAFU Cup of Nations with a match against Benin at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium on Friday evening, kick-off at 18h00 local time. The Ivorians were forced to scrap for their place in the last eight of the competition, as they needed penalties to overcome Togo after a goalless draw in their knockout round clash on Tuesday. Goalkeeper Jean Malick Ble Zadi proved to be the hero after saving two penalties and scoring one himself to help his side prevail 4-3 in the shootout. “I’m congratulating my boys for fighting and give a chance for our team to go to the group stage,” Elephants coach Ibrahim Kamara said after the match, while also acknowledging that their main aim at the WAFU competition is prepare a strong side

Two Second half goals from Ibrahim Ogoulola and Agnide Osseni handed Benin a 2-0 win over Cape Verde in a Last 16, 2017 WAFU Cup of Nations match at Cape Coast Sports Stadium on Tuesday, September 12. Two minutes into the game Benin were lucky to still have a full complement of players when their goalkeeper, Steve Glodjinon, brought down Euclides Ramos just outside the box. Despite being the last man, the referee only branded Glodjinon with a yellow card. From the resulting free-kick, Euclides Ramos’ 22-yard strike hit the side netting. That was about as exciting as the first half got with both sides squandering possession in the final third of the field. The next decent scoring chance came on the stroke of half time when Idihamin da Conceicao met a corner with a strong
