Former Belgium national coach, Marc Wilmots, has been appointed the manager of Ivory Coast, the country’s football federation said on its website on Tuesday. Wilmots, 48, was the Red Devils coach from 2012 to 2016, but was sacked following the elimination of the Belgians in the quarter-finals of the Euro tournament in France. He succeeds Frenchman Michel Dussuyer, who quit as manager of the elephants after the 2015 African nations champions failed to progress from the group stage at the tournament played in January in Gabon. This will be the first African adventure for Wimots who is expected to commit to a renewable two-year contract, according to a source close to the Ivorian Football Federation (IFF). Ghana Black Sharks suffered a heavy defeat as they kick start their 2016 Africa Beach Soccer Cup of Nations campaign by losing 5-0 to Ivory Coast on Tuesday. The Black Sharks had high hopes going into the game but could not stand the fire the Ivorians posses. The Ghanaian side must beat Egypt in their next match on Wednesday in order to make it out of their group which also has host nation Nigeria. The two top teams in the group will advance to the semi-final stage of the tournament, which is scheduled to end on Sunday. The winner and runner-up of the tournament will represent the continent at the 2017 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in Bahamas.
