Liverpool beat Hoffenheim in Champions league first leg

International News
Liverpool will take a one-goal advantage back to Anfield for the second leg of their Champions League play-off tie with Hoffenheim after Trent Alexander-Arnold's free-kick and an own goal earned them a hard-fought victory in Germany. Rookie full-back Alexander-Arnold demonstrated a cutting edge lacking in some of his more experienced team-mates with an expertly taken set-piece that found the bottom corner of the home net in the 35th minute to give him his first goal for the club. James Milner took advantage of acres of space on the left to find the top corner via a significant deflection from the chest of Havard Nordtveit just 10 minutes after coming on as a second-half substitute. But defensive frailties again hampered the Reds as Mark Uth was found by a long ball into the box an...

London - Liverpool will be without midfielder Adam Lallana for "a couple of months" due to a thigh injury, the Premier League club announced on Friday. The England international, 29, sustained the injury during Liverpool's friendly match against Atletico Madrid in Munich on Wednesday. "This is certainly not news we would have wanted," manager Jurgen Klopp told the Liverpool website. "Unfortunately, the damage is such that it will likely mean Adam is out for a couple of months not weeks, so I think we can pretty much rule him out of August and September. Beyond that we will monitor and wait and see. "He is a boy with a world-class attitude to everything professionally and he has always come back in good time from injury setbacks since I have been here, so we will see." Lallan...

Liverpool completes Mohamed Salah move

Liverpool have completed the 39m euro (£34m) signing of Roma's former Chelsea winger Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian, 25, has signed a five-year deal and has been a prime target for manager Jurgen Klopp. At current exchange rates, the fee is short of the club record £35m paid for Andy Carroll in 2011 but matches the sum they spent in 2016 to make Sadio Mane the most expensive African player. Salah almost joined Liverpool from Basle in 2014 before moving to Chelsea. Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp said: "He has the perfect mix of experience and potential - this is a really exciting signing for us. "I have followed him since he emerged at Basle and he has matured into a really good player. "His pace is incredible, he gives us more attacking threat and we are already strong in this

Liverpool consider Gelson Martins over Salah

International News
Liverpool are in talks with Sporting Lisbon over a deal for forward Gelson Martins as they fear being priced out of a move for Roma's Mohamed Salah. Reports in Portugal claim Martins, 22, is the Reds' latest target as talks over Salah stalled after Liverpool's opening offer of £28m was rejected. Roma are believed to want even more than the £40m touted as the original price tag for the 24-year-old Egypt international - leaving Liverpool to consider moving on alternative targets unless the Italian side compromise. Liverpool are understood to have now made contact with Sporting for Portugal international Martins, who has a release clause of about £50m. But this is likely to be negotiable as Sporting have not automatically qualified for the Champions League group stage and are fa
