Kolo Toure says he "couldn't be happier" after returning to Celtic to join the club's coaching staff as a technical assistant. Toure, 36, made 17 appearances for Celtic last season before ending his playing career to focus on coaching. "This is a new chapter in my career, a new beginning. The football is over now," Toure told the Celtic website. "I can officially say I am retired from playing and now I am fully concentrating on coaching." In his new role, the former Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City defender will be "supporting on all first-team coaching matters" and using his knowledge to assist Celtic's various youth levels. After taking up a coaching role with the Ivory Coast national set-up in the summer, Toure is relishing his coaching opportunity in the Scottish ...

Length Ban: Liverpool lose Sadio Mane appeal

African Sports
Liverpool have lost their appeal over the length ban of Sadio Mane's three-match red card ban in Saturday's 5-0 defeat at Manchester City. Mane was dismissed in the 37th minute after catching City goalkeeper Ederson in the face with a high foot. He will now miss Premier League matches against Burnley and Leicester, as well as a trip to the latter in the EFL Cup. The excessive punishment claim was rejected following an independent regulatory commission hearing. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said on Saturday that neither he nor City counterpart Pep Guardiola thought Mane should have been sent off. Match of the Day pundits Alan Shearer, Gary Lineker and Ian Wright all said they would have gone for the ball, while Chris Sutton told Match of the Day 2 that Mane's red card should...

Oxlade-Chamberlain turns down £40m Chelsea move

International News
Arsenal's Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has turned down a move to Chelsea after the Premier League clubs agreed a £40m fee. Oxlade Chamberlain believes the Blues planned to use him at wing-back, and his primary reason for wanting to leave Arsenal is to play in central midfield. The 24-year-old England international wants to move to Liverpool. A bid from the Reds is expected before Thursday's transfer deadline, although it is likely to be below the price Chelsea were willing to pay. Should a move not transpire, Oxlade-Chamberlain will see out the final year of his contract before potentially leaving on a free transfer next summer. Arsenal want any deal for the former Southampton midfielder completed as quickly as possible. Oxlade-Chamberlain has started every game for the Gunner

Naby Keita: Liverpool agree deal for Leipzig midfielder

African Sports
Liverpool have confirmed a deal to sign RB Leipzig's Naby Keita, with the midfielder moving to Anfield in July 2018. The Reds have agreed to pay the £48m release clause that will allow Naby Keita to move next summer, plus an undisclosed premium. Keita had been one of Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp's primary targets this summer, but Leipzig refused to sell. The deal surpasses the record £35m paid to Newcastle for Andy Carroll in 2011. Liverpool confirmed the deal on Tuesday, and Naby Keita said: "I will become part of a project that excites me greatly. "My commitment to RBL remains absolute for the remainder of my time at the club. Having my future resolved means I can now focus on helping RBL achieve great things this season. "Until I join my new club, next summer, I will re

Liverpool through to Champions League group stage

Liverpool produced a stunning attacking display against play-off opponents Hoffenheim to ensure five English sides will compete in the Champions League group stage for the first time. Leading 2-1 from the first leg, the Reds virtually wrapped up the tie with three goals in the opening 20 minutes. Emre Can's deflected shot put them ahead before Mohamed Salah reacted quickest to slot in a rebound off the post. Can stroked in Roberto Firmino's cross at the back post just 143 seconds later before Hoffenheim substitute Mark Uth, introduced after 24 minutes in a tactical reshuffle, pulled one back. Former Hoffenheim forward Firmino put the tie beyond doubt after the break, sliding the ball into the bottom corner after Jordan Henderson dispossessed opposing captain Kevin Vogt before u...

Liverpool beat Hoffenheim in Champions league first leg

Liverpool will take a one-goal advantage back to Anfield for the second leg of their Champions League play-off tie with Hoffenheim after Trent Alexander-Arnold's free-kick and an own goal earned them a hard-fought victory in Germany. Rookie full-back Alexander-Arnold demonstrated a cutting edge lacking in some of his more experienced team-mates with an expertly taken set-piece that found the bottom corner of the home net in the 35th minute to give him his first goal for the club. James Milner took advantage of acres of space on the left to find the top corner via a significant deflection from the chest of Havard Nordtveit just 10 minutes after coming on as a second-half substitute. But defensive frailties again hampered the Reds as Mark Uth was found by a long ball into the box an...

Beyond that we will monitor and wait and see. "He is a boy with a world-class attitude to everything professionally and he has always come back in good time from injury setbacks since I have been here, so we will see." Lallan...
