Liverpool have lost their appeal over the length ban of Sadio Mane's three-match red card ban in Saturday's 5-0 defeat at Manchester City. Mane was dismissed in the 37th minute after catching City goalkeeper Ederson in the face with a high foot. He will now miss Premier League matches against Burnley and Leicester, as well as a trip to the latter in the EFL Cup. The excessive punishment claim was rejected following an independent regulatory commission hearing. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said on Saturday that neither he nor City counterpart Pep Guardiola thought Mane should have been sent off. Match of the Day pundits Alan Shearer, Gary Lineker and Ian Wright all said they would have gone for the ball, while Chris Sutton told Match of the Day 2 that Mane's red card should...
Arsenal have rejected a £50m bid from Premier League rivals Manchester City for forward Alexis Sanchez. Alexis Sanchez who scored 24 Premier League goals last season, is out of contract next summer and wants to play for City manager Pep Guardiola. Arsenal have rebuffed all approaches for Sanchez, and would like City's Raheem Sterling as part of any deal before Thursday's transfer deadline. But Guardiola is understood to want the Chilean as a straight purchase. England forward Sterling, 22, has featured in all three of City's games so far this season. However he is not guaranteed a starting role at Etihad Stadium following the summer arrival of Bernardo Silva from Monaco. BBC Sport understands Sterling would be interested in moving back to London should he become part of t
Manchester City are set to sign Nigeria international Olarenwaju Kayode from Austria Vienna on a four-year deal and send him on a season-long loan to Spanish side Girona. The 24-year-old striker finished as the top scorer in Austria's top flight last season with 17 goals in 33 games. Kayode had been linked with a move to Newcastle United. Four other City players are to spend the 2017-18 season at newly-promoted La Liga side Girona. Brazilian £10.7million midfielder Douglas Luiz, right-back Pablo Maffeo, midfielder Aleix Garcia and Colombian winger Marlos Moreno have all signed loan deals with the Spanish club. City are yet to officially announce the deal for Kayode. He scored 24 goals in 48 matches for Vienna last season, including two goals in two games against Roma

Walker made 183 Premier League appearances in eight seasons at Spurs and has won 27 England caps. The deal for the defender is worth £50m, including £5m of add-ons. “I am thrilled to be signing for City and can’t wait to get started,” said Walker. “Pep Guardiola is one of the most respected managers in the world.” He added: “I feel he can help me take my game to a new level.” Walker, who will wear the number two shirt, is expected to travel with City on Monday for their tour of the USA. Ivory Coast midfielder Yaya Toure looks likely to be offered a new contract by Manchester City. The 34-year-old's current deal runs out at the end of the season. Toure looked like he would be leaving the club after being left out of City's Champions League squad and did not play a Premier League game until November. But he fought his way back into Pep Guardiola's plans and Saturday's win against Leicester was his 29th appearance of the season. Meanwhile, Guardiola has called Pablo Zabaleta a "real legend" of the club after the Argentina full-back announced on Saturday that he will leave at the end of the season. Unlike Zabaleta, who leaves City after nine seasons, Toure is keen to stay on, with Guardiola believing the Ivorian is worth an extra season. City will honour t...
Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure would prefer to play "without a referee" in Thursday's derby with Manchester United after criticizing the standard of officiating in the FA Cup semi-final defeat by Arsenal. Referee Craig Pawson ruled out Sergio Aguero's first-half strike at Wembley. Replays suggested the goal should have stood and City went on to lose the game 2 - 1 after extra time. "I think the referees have to stop this," said Toure. "I am very disappointed. It is not the first time, there have been a couple of times. "Maybe on Thursday we are going to have a better referee or maybe play without a referee - I'd prefer that." Officials ruled that Leroy Sane's cross had gone out of play before reaching Aguero. The Argentina striker later did score to put City a...
Jermaine Defoe made a goal scoring return to the international fold as England chalked up a routine 2-0 World Cup qualifying win over Lithuania. The 20th strike of Defoe's international career came after 21 minutes at Wembly and four years on from his 19th versus minnows San Marino in March 2013. Aside from the 34-year-old Sunderland striker celebrating a starting berth in familiar style, there was little else to write home about in a forgettable encounter. Manchester City center-back John Stones was forced into a goal-line clearance on the stroke of half-time but Gareth Southgate's side closed out victory in comfort after Defoe's replacement Jamie Vardy doubled their advantage midway through the second period. Burnley's Michael Keane made his competitive debut alongside St
Middlesbrough have sacked manager Aitor Karanka after three and a half years at the club. Boro are winless in their last 10 Premier League games and currently sit in the relegation zone, three points from safety with 11 games remaining. "This club will always hold a special place for me," said Karanka, 43. "I'd like to thank Middlesbrough for a wonderful opportunity and the players, staff and all the people at the club who I have worked with." The former Real Madrid assistant manager took over at the Riverside in November 2013 to become Middlesbrough's first ever non-British b
