World Cup 2026: Morocco confirms it will bid to host tournament

The Moroccan Football Federation has announced it will bid to host the 2026 World Cup. The deadline for countries to express their intention to bid to host the tournament is Friday, at which point Fifa will confirm the bidders. The United States, Canada and Mexico announced in April that they intend to put forward a joint bid. The World Cup has only been hosted once in Africa - in South Africa in 2010 - and this will be Morocco's fifth bid. The Confederation of African Football (Caf) gave its backing to a Moroccan bid in July. A total of 48 teams, rather than the current 32, will compete at an expanded tournament in 2026 after changes announced by Fifa earlier this year. Tunisian referee Youssef Essrayi has been appointed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to handle the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier between Ghana and Congo next month. Youssef Essrayi will receive assistance from countrymen Jridi Faouzi, Marwene Saad and Nasrallah Jaouadi as the other match officials. Essrayi officiated in World Cup qualifying match involving Ivory Coast and Liberia in two years ago where the Ivorians won by a lone goal. Ghana take the Congolese side at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on 1 September.

Ghana Black Starlets have been drawn in group A for the impending Fifa U 17 World Cup scheduled for India. The young Ghanaians found themselves in a group made up of host nation India, USA and Colombia for the competition which comes off this year. Coach Paa Kwesi Fabin recently invited a 25 man squad to begin camping ahead of the tournament which begins from October 6 to 28. Ghana qualified for this competition after placing second in the African championship in Gabon.

kwesi fabin A delegation made up of the Chairman of Black Starlets Management Committee, Lawyer Kweku Ayiah and Head coach, Paa Kwasi Fabin has left Accra for India to attend the official draw for the FIFA U-17 World Cup on Friday. The delegates are expected to witness the draw and also take part of accommodation inspection, stadium facilities and other necessary arrangements. They will also take part in a workshop for delegates which will brief them about the impending competition which begins in October this year. The Black Starlets made a the World Cup list following a second place finish int the African Championship in Gabon.

Head Coach of the Ghana Black Starlets Paa Kwesi Fabin has named 26 players to begin preparations for the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup scheduled for India this year. The youngsters will start camping from Monday at the Ghanaman Soccer of Excellence in Prapram as they prepare for the World tournament which starts on October 5 and ends on the 28. Ghana skipper Asamoah Gyan celebrated his 5o goal mark for the Black Stars in their 5-0 win over Ethiopia in Kumasi this evening. Asamoah Gyan before the game against the 1963 AFCON winners had scored 49 goals and needed just a goal to reach 50. Gyan eventually had the goal he has been looking for when he got his name on the score sheet for Ghana after heading home a Thomas Agyapong's cross from the left side of the attack. The former Sunderland striker made his international debut at the age of 18 against Somalia where he scored in the 90th minute. He has since scored many important goals for the Black Stars including 68 seconds goal against Czech Republic in the 2006 World Cup in Germany.
