The Ghana Karate Do Federation (GKF) will organize a special tournament on April 12 and 13, 2019 at the Accra Sports Stadium to select the current best athletes in the nation.
President of GKF, Melvin Nii Kpakpo Brown said many Karate players have been training for this championship and it will determine those who will qualify to represent Ghana at major international competition.
Brown who is a member of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games Working Committee said he wishes Karate do will be represented by a Ghanaian and urged his athletes to train and prepare for future assignments and events.
According to the President of Karate Do, the nation has very good athletes but others in the sub region of West Africa are doing very well.
He appealed to companies to support Ghana Karate Do, and also encouraged more students to engage in Karate Do.
“Karate Do has helped me a lot since my school days at St. Augustine’s College, I have really commited my life to Karate Do and I never regret. Sports has made me great and famous and I wish more parents will allow their children to do sports, especially Karate Do.
He also appealed to Karate Clubs and organisations in Ghana to come together so that they can be united and seek support from government, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and other sponsors for support.
He thanked Bond Financial Services, Citydia and the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) for supporting Karate Do Federation.
